Power Supply:
A power supply is an electronic device that supplies
electric energy to an electric loads. The primary function of the power supply
is to convert one form of electrical energy into another and as a result, power
supplies are sometimes are referred to as electric power converter.
Most
modern desktop, PC power supplies confirm to ATX specification, which includes
form factors and voltage tolerance. While an ATX power supply is connected to
the main supply, it always provide a 5V standby (5VSB) voltage.so that the
standby function of the computer can be powered. ATX power supplies are turned
on and off from the signal from the motherboard. It also provide a signal to
the motherboard to indicate when the DC voltage and are in need. So, that the
computer is able to safely power off and boot.
SMPS:
SMPS is
a power supply that uses a switching regulator to control and stabilize the
output voltage by switching load current on and off. These power supplies
provide greater power conversion and reduces the overall power loss.
SMPS converts the input AC
voltage to the DC voltage needed by the computer. In older computers, AT SMPS
were used. Currently,
