Peripheral
device:
All the device that are connected to
the computer for the various purposes such as to send input, store data and get
output are known as peripheral device. Keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner are
the peripheral devices.
Types of peripheral
device:
There are many different peripheral
devices but they fall into three general categories:
1.
Input
device (Such as Mouse, Keyboard etc.)
2.
Output
device (Such as Monitor, printer etc.)
3.
Storage
device (Such as Hard disk, flash drive etc.)
Some
devices fall into more than one category such as CD-ROM drive it can be used to
read data or music (input) and to write data to CD (output).
Peripheral
device can be external or internal. For example a printer is an external device
that you connect using a cable while and optical disk drive is typically
located inside the computer case. Internal peripheral device are also referred
to as integrated peripherals.
Basic
I/O Interface:
I/O
interface provides a method for transferring information between internal
storage and external input/output device (peripheral device). Peripheral
connected to a computer need special communication link for interfacing them
with CPU unit.
