Evolution of Microprocessor Fairchild Semiconductor (founded in 1957) invented the first IC in 1959. In 1968,Robert Noyce,Gorden Moore, Andrew grave resigned from Fairchild semiconductor They founded their own company INTEL . INTEL grown from three man start up in1968 to industrial grant by 1981 It had 20,000 employees & $ 188 million revenue.

INTEL 4040: INTEL 4040 It was also 4 bit microprocessor. It was introduced in 1974
INTEL 8080: INTEL 8080 It was first 8 bit microprocessor. it was introduced in 1971. It could execute 50,000 instruction per second.

Intel 8085 : Intel 8085 It was also 8 bit microprocessor It was introduced in 1977. It could execute access 64 KB of memory . It had 256 instruction. Over 100 million copies were sold.
INTEL 8086 : INTEL 8086 Introduced in 1978. It was first 16 bit microprocessor. It could execute 2.5 million intruction per second. It could access 1 MB of memory. It had 22,000 instruction. It had multiply and divide instruction.
INTEL 8088: INTEL 8088 Introduced in 1979. It was also 16 bit microprocessor. It could execute 2.5 million instruction per second. It could acess 1 MB of memory. It had multiply and divide instruction.
INTEL 80186 & 80188: INTEL 80186 & 80188 They were 16 bit microprocessor. Introduced in 1982 . They had additional components like:- Interrupt controller Clock generator Local bus controller counters
INTEL 802866: INTEL 802866 Introduced in 1982. It was 16 bit microprocessor. It could execute 4 million instructions per second. Its clock speed was 8 MHz
INTEL 80386: INTEL 80386 Introduced in 1986. It was first 32 bit microprocessor. It could address 4 GB of memory Different versions 80386 SX 80386 SL / 80386 SLC 80386 EX

INTEL PENTIUM: INTEL PENTIUM Introduced in 1993. It was also 32 bit microprocessor. It could execute 110 million instruction per second. It was originally named 80586. Cache memory. 8 KB for instruction. 8 KB for data.
INTEL PENTIUM PRO: INTEL PENTIUM PRO Introduced in 1995. It was also 32 bit microprocessor. It had 21 million transistors. Cache memory. 8KB for instruction 8KB for data. It had L2 cache (level 2 means cache memory divided into 2 levels) of 250KB.
INTEL PENTIUM II: INTEL PENTIUM II Introduced in 1997. It was also 32 bit microprocessor. It could execute 333million instruction per second. MMX (multimedia extent ion) technology was supported. L2 cache & processor were on one circuit.
INTEL PENTIUM II XEON: INTEL PENTIUM II XEON Introduced in 1998. It was also 32 bit Microprocessor. It was design for servers. L1 cache of 32 KB & L2 cache of 512 KB , 1MB or 2MB. It could work with 4 xenon's in same system.
INTEL PENTIUM III: INTEL PENTIUM III Introduced in 1999. It was also 32 bit MB. Its clock speed was 1GHZ.
INTEL PENTIUM IV: INTEL PENTIUM IV Introduced in 2000. It was also 32 bit MB. L1 cache was of 32 KB & L2 cache of 256 KB. It had 42 million transistor. All internal connections were made from aluminum to copper.
INTEL DUAL CORE: INTEL DUAL CORE Introduced in 2006. It was 32 bit or 64 bit microprocessor. It had two cores. It supported SMT technology. SMT : Simultaneously Multi threading. E.g. : adobe Photoshop supported SMT.
INTEL CORE 2 DUO: INTEL CORE 2 DUO It was introduced in 2006. It was 32 bit or 64 bit microprocessor.
